My sculpture/ objects/ rooms/ want to orient a person (audience) towards/around a place of no words. Where their bodies / your body feels the presence of other clods of mass and from that receive(s) information. Information that exists in the performance & video work also in the room in other ways and other languages. (But which relies a great deal (a lot) on words). Others’, mine, ours (together).
Music/ sound in the work exists as a rope, a bridge, a room (space) between both (video and sculpture). It rattles (shakes) the body before the mind has caught on/ caught up with any meaning that might exist or come to exist between me and you (”the audience”).

The ideas in my work are formed by the time I have been on earth; born in a colony, as an “afroindigenous” person, as a “woman”, most recently as a “mother” and the disciplines of response that belong to each. Sometimes the work is tragic, sometimes the work is funny, I prefer it to be both.

I’m working on new video, new music, new choreographies and new plants.

I was born in 1985 in Carolina, Puerto Rico and live and work between there and Oakland, California.

I am also one half of the music duo and experimental sound outfit XUXA SANTAMARIA.
